Running Around In Circles

This version of 'Running Around in Circles', which was created in May/June 2026, is much closer to the original (written in 1970) than the one below it. 

It follows the melody and chord structure very precisely, although the singer's phrasing, which too often does not follow the original meter, leaves something to be desired.

"I've been running around in circles for some time.

Sleeping in stairways and drinking lots of rough, red wine.

If I've loved one man, I must have loved two,

If I've loved a thousand I still only remember you.

I'd write you a love song that I'd sing for no more than your time.

A song with real feeling that would mean more than rhythm and rhyme.

Now I look at those same words and, somehow, they seem so mundane.

But though the poetry's dated, the memory's are all still the same.

Oo-oo-oh-oh, it's a shame.

Had to go, darling, I just could not stay.

Had to find out, where I was from.

Blinded by her dreams, 

A young girl gambled and she got it all wrong.

As I sit here drinking, thinking how the time it has flown,

I'll give a health to you, darling, I'm hoping that you're not all alone.

Don't think unkindly of me, should I ever cross your mind.

'Cos I've been running around in circles for some time.

I've been running around in circles for some time." 

This Gospel version of 'Running Around In Circles' was created in January 2025.

The song was originally supposed to be sung by a woman.
