WILLIAM

Wrote this in 1970?

Can't be sure now, it was certainly a student effort.

This cover version was created in June 2026.
"William is my hero,
How I wish I was like him.
William is my hero,
How I wish I was like him.

He really is quite special you know,
Quite beyond compare.
There's always something drifting
And cold when he's not there.

And then we feel his warm embrace,
It lights the world around.
Colors a blue sky smiling,
And phases out the clouds.

He paints the stage in broad daylight
And acts the fool but that's alright.
My hero is my clown.

William is my hero,
How I wish I was like him.
William is my hero,
How I wish I was like him.

I know he knows more than me,
Just like all heroes should.
It shows behind his loving eyes,
The gentle and the good.

Despairing dreams of olden times
Lie still below the laughter lines.
In hiding there from nowadays,
Who only think they know you when you cry.

And you would have liked him, I know.
But you turned away,
Said you had to go.

Goodbye.
Goodbye.
Goodbye."
