Look At The Pretty Girls!

Around 1974 time, when ABBA was winning Eurovision with 'Waterloo', I tried my hand at writing a song for that competition and came up with 'Don't Rock The Boat.'

In 1991, I tried again and came up with 'Look At The Pretty Girls.'

Now you may be wondering what a very 'poppy' pop song is doing at a site like this. Well, Big Daddy wrote the originals, that the first thing, and the second thing is, a niece of mine who lives in New York, bred a boy and a girl, twins as it happens, who both turned out to be what is known nowadays as 'influencers.' That's how they make their living. By influencing youngsters even dumber than they are.

Well, when kinfolk, who wouldn't normally give a damn whether I was dead or alive, get in touch and ask me if they can use a couple of my songs on their blogs, (the one that the boy features at his site is called, 'I'm Gonna Live Forever,' (it follows immediately after 'Look At The Pretty Girls' in the sidebar), what am I going to say? Truth is, I'm happy that they'd consider using them. In fact, I'm happy when ANYONE uses my material. (Doesn't happen often enough) And I especially like it when they, like my children have been doing recently, produce something that's appreciably better than the originals.

To my way of thinking, if what you're about to hear ever found it's way on to the Eurovision Song Contest, it would do quite a bit better than the normal fare dished up by the in crowd who manage to get their songs played on the show, and the qualifying rounds that lead up to it.

I'm biased, of course. But then my children should be biased, shouldn't they? Seeing as their east coast relations are involved, but, as you might expect from a family of metal heads, the songs in question either make them laugh, or make them leave the room.

Never mind, I like what my in-laws have done. So does my wife. Which is why they are featured here. Much to the rest of the family's chagrin.

Tough, if they want me participating in this project, that participation comes at a price. i.e. Big Daddy gets his own way, ALL THE TIME! 👹

Wrote the original 'Look At the Pretty Girls' 1991.

The 2024 version is featured above, courtesy of New York's finest, wait for it, Cherry Poppet! (Her twin bro, Big Richard, [really?] is also featured in the 'New York Connection' section)

"What is this world but a world of care?
Ah, pity poor everyman.
Everyone minds their own affair
But never many offer a helping hand.

What is this life but a life of trial,
Where paradise appears an impossible thing?
But come the sun and a young girl's smile
And you're seventeen again with a world to win!

Look at the pretty girl, proud to be a woman,
Easing down the street with her head held high.
Child of the sun with her seventh sense gunning
For a man with a passion to satisfy!

Lovers want love, others want laughter,
Some confess a fondness for the South of France.
Mother wants a Prince and a happy ever after,
Daughter wants a Gondola and wandering hands.

Drowning, waving, heady hopes a-raising,
Who's the lady wants to know your name?
You may feel a fool but you gotta be brave
And go say 'hi' or you'll die of shame.

Look at the pretty girl, proud to be a woman,
Easing down the street with her head held high.
Child of the sun with her seventh sense gunning
For a man with a passion to satisfy!

"I love you, love me, 'do you really?
Is it only for the Summer or forever, Amen?'
Well, I don't know but it's fun thing I feel
And I'll be here next year if we're still friends'."
Look at the pretty girl, proud to be a woman,
Easing down the street with her head held high.
Child of the sun with her seventh sense gunning
For a man with a passion to satisfy!

All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small;
Unwon young woman in the Summer sun,
You're the wonder of the all!

Look at the pretty girl, proud to be a woman,
Easing down the street with her head held high.
Child of the sun with her seventh sense gunning
For a man with a passion to satisfy!

Look at the pretty girls, proud to be a woman,
Easing down the street with the Summertime come.
Children of the sun with their seventh sense gunning
For a man with a passion to match their own!"

Changed a line in the last verse - This is better...

Look at the pretty girl, proud to be a woman,
The Summer is here and she's in the zone.
Child of the sun with her seventh sense gunning
For a man with a passion to match her own!

P.S. You would've thought that 'any publicity would be good publicity', so exposure here would be welcomed by the aforementioned New Yorkers. Not so. They and their mother, my niece, don't like my politics. So they don't wish to be associated with this site.

Their loss.
