Older Man

I think I wrote this in 1979.

This version was created in September 2026.
"Your tall, dark, handsome man,
With the piercing eyes and the air of command,
Has turned out to be an also ran,
With a nervous tic and fumbling hands.

A young bull trying to impress,
Little knowledge and less finesse.
You whisper low that he's the best,
Your back seat lover will never guess.

Wham, bam, that scene is over.
Now he thinks he's Casanova.
Sometimes you don't know why you bother
With those tall dark, handsome robot lovers,
When there's much better merchandise on offer.

Try an older man!

Older man.
Older man.
Older man, etc.

With a dated line from some old B-picture,
Cassanova may strike it rich, oh, it's a
Regular Saturday night fixture,
To bowl a maiden over on the cricket pitch.

But let him catch you doing the same,
Suddenly, well, it isn't a game, oh,
You let him down, don't you feel ashamed?
He's never ever going to speak to you again!

Who did it? Was it one of his friends?
He's going to kill him, to make amends.
Honey, he's just playing make-pretends.
Sonny, better take yourself in hand.
You don't stand a chance against an older man,
And I'm an older man!

Older man.
Older man.
Older man, etc.

Sometimes you have to gamble
To find out who you are.
You could go on forever
Never knowing your a-star.

And if there's something missing
You can put your finger on.
When everything seems the same
And you can't figure out what's wrong,
What's wrong with an older man?

Older man.
Older man.
Older man, etc."
