What Did I Do?

'What Did I Do' was written by Larry Hill in 1974.

He thinks this version was recorded in 2012.
"What am I doing with tears in my eyes?
What am I doing with tears in my eyes?
I was the one who took the prize.
Cut all the others down to size.
Superman and champion in her eyes.
So this helpless feeling comes as a surprise.

What did I do?
What did I do?

What am I doing with my head in my hands?
What am I doing with my head in my hands?
I should be up and making plans.
Leading them all a merry dance,
Searching for a dream where the rainbow ends.
But instead I'm just left holding broken strands.

What did I do?
What did I do?

Remember they said that I was flying,
I'd break you up and leave you crying.
Just shows how wrong people can be.
You were the only one I ever could see.

What did I do?
What did I do?

What am I doing by the wishing well?
What am I doing by the wishing well?
It's over now they've broken the spell.
Oh, and where I'm heading now I just can't tell.
But I wish they'd let me make it with my gal.
Did they have to take me from her
Just when we were doing so well.

What did I do?
What did I do?

Where is the guilt what was the crime?
Ah, in hitching a ride upon the passing time.
No hurt no harm were we intending.
We only sought to write a happy ending.

What did I do?
What did I do?

Once I was up and I was flying.
Too soon they shot me down
And now I'm crying.
And so they still keep us apart.
Can't you hear her sad and lonely
Dancing over my aching heart?

What did I do?"
