CAROLINE

Wrote this in 1971, I think.

Not sure now. It was certainly written when I was student.

This cover version was recorded in June 2026.
"This young man
Has a plan.
Thinks he can
Take a chance,
Oh, oh, gonna make you mine!
Oh pretty Caroline!

Invited to her twenty-first birthday party but I did not go.
Offered to take her out that night but, of course, she could not show.
Been waiting for a long, long time, trying to catch her eye.
But since then my resolutions dwindled and I feel she may be passing me by.

You're a man,
'Course you can!
Stick to the plan
And take a chance!
Oh, oh, gonna make you mine!
Oh, pretty Caroline.

I'm going to the dance tonight, she's gonna be there too.
Oh, darling, such a lovely smile, such an easy charm, what can I do?
I'll wait until she looks my way and then I'll ask for a dance.
She's looking now! Oh, dear, what makes me
All fingers and thumbs. For goodness sake,
Keep cool. Oh, now I've lost my chance!

Larry Lamb.
Oh, young man,
You lost the chance
Of romance.
Oh, oh, how I wish you were mine!
Oh, pretty Caroline!

I think it's time for me to go, no use in hanging 'round.
Oh hello there, oh, er, Caroline, didn't know that you were coming on down.
Do you know what I mean? Oh, is it so funny?
Didn't know that I was making a fool,
Of myself. Oh, well, oh, what the hell,
With you around, honey, I'm so gauche it's not true.

Oh, oh, Caroline!
Pretty baby can you find the time?
For a dance?
Took a chance.
We walked all the way home holding hands.
Oh, oh, that first kiss.
Carolina, let me tell you this:
Larry the Lamb is a happy man."
